Gourmet Foods Online
Gourmet foods are now available everywhere, thanks to the internet. For those of us who live in small towns, we realize that gourmet in a rural supermarket can mean leaf lettuce instead of iceberg. The Internet has changed that. It has revolutionized the way we shop for everything- and food shopping is no exception, especially when it comes to procuring gourmet food.
When shopping online you have access to a wider selection of products than that found in an average supermarket. The internet also allows you to purchase gourmet food items at the best price. There are a number of reasons you may wish to go online to buy your gourmet foods. More choices and better prices are just two of them. Geography is another reason. Depending on the area in which you live, you may not have easy access to a store that sells high quality products or specialty grocery items. Simply put, obtaining gourmet foods online is easier and more efficient than running all over town (or in some cases, running to a different town) to track down a special ingredient.
Italian Cuisine - The History
Italian cuisine is becoming increasingly popular in the UK. Although this is a recent change in the restaurant industry, Italian cuisine dates back to the 4th century BC where the roots are derived from potatoes, maize, bell pepper and tomato. Usually an Italian meal would be made up of three to four courses and are seen as a time to spend with family and friends which can be much longer than in other cultures, sometimes lasting for many hours. One very unique aspect of an Italian meal, is the primo or first course. This is usually the most filling dish which would consist of either risotto or pasta, both being rich in carbohydrates. However, modern Italian cuisine would include this as a single course.
It was at the beginning of the 18th century that the culinary books of Italy began to show the regionalism of Italian cuisine. So many of what we eat today comes from over two centuries of Italian history. Through various influences throughout the centuries, including neighbouring regions, conquerors, high-profile chefs, political upheavals as well as the discovery of the New World, a concrete cuisine has formed to what is known today as one of the premiere cuisines in the world. Popular Italian dishes include many pastas and risottos as well as espresso coffee that originally comes from Italy. Also, traditional pizzas are very popular, which many pizzeria restaurants becoming popular all over Britain.
Austrian Cuisine
For many hundreds of years, Austria was at the center of the multi-ethnic Habsburg Empire. This empire included not only Austria itself, but also incorporated (at various times) parts of Italy, parts of Germany, Hungary, Croatia, what is today the Czech Republic, and various Balkan regions. As a result of this history, Austrian cuisine has been very much influenced by that of neighboring countries, and although Austria does have its own unique recipes, Austrian cuisine does also include other dishes in common with the country’s neighbors.
Some popular Austrian recipes include:
* Wiener schnitzel - This is a slice of meat, dipped in wheat flour, eggs and bread crumbs and then deep fried. The traditional meat for Wiener schnitzel is veal, but other meats such as pork or turkey are sometimes used nowadays. After cooking, the dish is traditionally served with potato salad and lemon. The phrase “Wiener schnitzel” is German for “Viennese cutlet”.
* Knodel - Austrian dumplings. They may be eaten as side or used in soup. Kno can be made in various ways, include from potato (”kartoffelknodel”), from dry bread (”semmelknodel”), or with bacon added (speckknodel”).
* Tafelspitz - Beef and root vegetables, cooked by boiling.

Cypriot Cuisine
Cyprus is an island in the eastern Mediterranean. It lies just to the South of Turkey, and is also fairly close to the Levant. From 1878 to 1960, the island was under British administration (and was a British crown colony from 1925 to 1960). In 1974, following a military coup and attempted union with Greece, the Turkish armed forces invaded the northern part of the island, and since that date the island’s administration has been divided (although the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not generally internationally recognized except by Turkey).
Cyprus has many historical and cultural links with Greece. The majority of Cypriots are ethnically Greek, speak the Greek language, and worship at Greek orthodox churches. As a result, Cypriot cuisine shares many features with the cuisine of mainland Greece. Of course, the island also has links to other countries too - and these links to Turkey, the Middle East, and Africa, are also reflected in some Cypriot dishes as well.
Healthy Cooking Recipes - Diet Friendly Foods!
As much as people wanted to consume food whenever they want to, gaining weight is a big consideration. This is why numerous food recipes have flagged the market, all purporting to be healthy and diet-friendly. However, not all these foods are actually good for the body. Some contain high caloric value even though they appear to be full of nourishment. The person is left then to decide which the real deal is.
To guide the health-conscious people out there, here are healthy cooking recipes that contain diet friendly foods:
Grilled Brocolli
To prepare, mix lemon juice, oil, a little salt and pepper and pour the mixture over the broccoli. Wait for 30 minutes before placing it in the grill. Brush the grill first with cooking spray. Place the broccoli inside a plastic bag, add some cheese and shake vigorously, ensuring that the broccolis are well-covered. Grill the broccoli over medium heat.
Stir-Fried Thai Chicken
Although chicken contains fat, one can still devour it when the part is carefully chosen. Pick the thigh part since this contains less fat. In high heat, put oil in the pan. One by one, add garlic, ginger, and the chicken. Stir well. After the chicken is a bit cooked, add the onion, red and green pepper, ginger, and sugar to taste. Stir until cooked. Finally, add the oyster sauce and peanuts. Mix well.
